Your agents can now run Seperate

Claude Code and Codex can now drive Seperate themselves: open other agents in panes next to theirs, hand them work, wait for the answer and close them when they are done, all where you can watch. Sessions started outside Seperate show up within a second, and every session finally has a name you can recognize.

Agents can open, steer and wait for other agents

Claude Code and Codex control Seperate through the seperate command

Every terminal in Seperate now has a seperate command, and Claude Code and Codex are told about it when they start. Ask Claude to "have Codex fix the failing test and tell me what it changed", and it can:

  • open Codex in a new pane next to its own, with the task as its first message (your keyboard focus stays where it is)
  • wait until Codex finishes its turn or asks something, and read its answer or its screen
  • reply to its questions, press keys to pick an option, and close the session at the end

seperate list shows every workspace, project, worktree and session with its state. Agents can also start sessions in an existing worktree or create a new one first. Whenever an agent opens a session or types into one, its pane header says "Opened by …" or "Typed by …" with the time; the line goes away once you type there yourself. Scripts and bots outside Seperate can use it too, through /Applications/Seperate.app/Contents/MacOS/seperate-cli. Run seperate --help for everything it can do.

Sessions started elsewhere appear right away

When you start Claude Code or Codex outside Seperate (another terminal, a Feishu bot, the Agent SDK), the session now appears in the sidebar within about a second, instead of up to a minute later. Seperate also checks again whenever you switch back to it.

Sessions have real names

Sessions now use the title Claude Code gives a conversation, and it stays up to date as the conversation goes on. Codex sessions without a title are named after the first thing you asked. Sessions started from the Agent SDK or a chat bot get proper names too, instead of "Claude session" or "Codex session".

Improvements

  • New tabs and splits keep the font size you set with ⌘+ / ⌘-
  • Sessions you continue somewhere else move back to the top of their worktree

Fixes

  • A session started in a worktree that had none was hidden inside a collapsed row; new project and worktree rows now open by themselves
  • When a project went from one worktree to several, its existing sessions were folded away; they now stay visible
  • Sessions started in Seperate kept placeholder names like "Claude Code 6" after a restart; they now show the conversation's title

Seperate now speaks English

Seperate was Chinese-only until now. From this release the whole app is available in English and Chinese, and it follows your Mac's language unless you pick one yourself.

English and Chinese, your choice

Seperate menu › Language

Menus, dialogs, the sidebar, the inbox, the command palette and notifications are all translated. By default Seperate uses Chinese when your Mac's preferred language is Chinese and English otherwise. To choose yourself, open Seperate › Language and pick System Default, 中文 or English. Seperate offers to restart so the change takes effect; your projects, workspaces and session names stay exactly as they are.

An installer in your language

The disk image now opens with "Install Seperate" (shown as "安装 Seperate" on a Chinese Mac), and the installer window follows your system language. The background explains the steps in both languages.

Improvements

  • Notifications from Claude Code and Codex (questions, plans waiting for review) use the same language as the app
  • Times read naturally in English: "5m", "3h", "yesterday", "Sep 12"
  • The website is now in English too, with Chinese at seperate.vercel.app/zh
0.3.1Patch releases · 1 version
  • 0.3.1Clicking an item in the inbox (the bell) sometimes did nothing while agents were running; now it always takes you to that session, in the right workspace and pane, even if its tab was closed. Codex now notifies you and shows up in the inbox when it asks a question, proposes a plan or wants to edit files, as Claude Code already did, and notifications say whether it is a question, a plan or an approval.

Close tabs in bulk, run Claude Code without permission prompts

This release makes a crowded tab strip easier to clean up, lets Claude Code run without stopping for permission prompts, and fixes Seperate quitting unexpectedly when you clicked a notification or switched workspaces.

Close tabs in bulk from the tab menu

Right-click a tab and choose which tabs to close

Right-click a tab to choose "Close Tab", "Close Other Tabs", "Close Tabs to the Left", "Close Tabs to the Right" or "Close All Tabs"; options with nothing to close are greyed out. When you close several at once and some terminals are still running, Seperate asks once instead of once per tab. Closed Codex and Claude Code sessions can be reopened from the sidebar later.

Start Claude Code without permission prompts

The project's "+" menu now has "Claude Code (Skip Permissions)"

Everywhere you can start a new session (the "+" menu, the right-click menus of projects, worktrees and terminals, and the command palette ⌘K), there's now "Claude Code (Skip Permissions)" under Claude Code. It never asks for permission and runs commands and edits files directly, which suits tasks you want to leave to the agent. It applies to that launch only: sessions restored after restarting Seperate ask for permissions again.

Fixes

  • Seperate sometimes quit unexpectedly when you clicked a system notification, answered an agent's question or switched workspaces; it no longer does
  • After clicking a notification for a session in another workspace, keyboard focus sometimes wasn't in that terminal; now you can type as soon as you land there

The first public release

0:00 / 0:00

Seperate is a macOS workbench for coding agents. This release puts Claude Code, Codex and your terminals in one window, organized by project and worktree, and tells you when an agent needs you.

Run several agents side by side

Two, three and four panes, or a 2×2 grid, switched with ⌃⌘1–⌃⌘4. Drag a tab to another pane or to a pane's edge. Terminals are rendered by Ghostty's engine.

Inbox: who's waiting for you

When an agent asks for permission, has a question or finishes, it shows up in the inbox (⌘I), with a system notification and a Dock badge. One click takes you to that tab.

Projects, worktrees and past conversations

The sidebar lists projects → worktrees → sessions, and you can create and delete git worktrees right there. Claude Code and Codex conversations stored on your Mac appear under their projects automatically; on first launch you can pick which of your agents' projects to import.

Double-click to install, update in the app

The DMG holds a single "Install Seperate": double-click it and Seperate goes into Applications. The app is notarized by Apple, so it opens without a security warning. New versions show up in the top bar and install with one click; you can also turn on automatic download and install in the menu.

Also included

  • Command palette (⌘K); Chinese titles can be searched by pinyin initials
  • Multiple workspaces, switched with ⌃1–⌃9
  • Open the current worktree in your default editor (⌥⌘O)
0.1.1 – 0.1.2Patch releases · 2 versions
  • 0.1.2Dragging files from Finder or the desktop into a terminal used to do nothing; now it inserts their paths (separated by spaces), and Claude Code and Codex take dropped images as attachments. Seperate also checks for updates every time it opens and shows a new version in the top bar right away instead of waiting a day; the menu option is now called "Check for Updates at Launch".
  • 0.1.1New "New Project": from the menu next to "Add Project" in the sidebar, the File menu (⌘N) or the command palette, type a name and Seperate creates the project, optionally runs git init, and opens a terminal in it. The project's right-click menu also gains "Copy Path".
